What grows a mole?
Moles are mostly caused by melanocytes. Melanocytes are cells that are generally distributed throughout the body and they produce melanin which is the natural pigment produced by our body responsible for giving us skin its color so this is why some people tend to go under mole removal treatment.
What is mole removal?
In order to remove the mole, your doctor first numbs the area surrounding the mole and then uses a scalpel to cut out both the mole as well as a small amount of healthy skin around it. This ensures that there are minimal scars from where the mole used to be.
Is mole removal painful?
Before cutting off the mole, your doctor may first inject it with a local anesthetic to make sure that removing it won’t hurt. If your mole has grown deep into the skin, your mole may require stitches in order for the procedure to be successful.
Can I take a shower after getting the mole removal treatment?
Be sure to keep the bandage dry and intact as instructed. A person can take off the bandage around a few days after surgery and shower over the wound if told to do so by the doctor. Swimming and heavy exercise must not be on ones to-do list for at least one week following surgery!
Does mole removal leave scars?
Surgically removing a mole, either for cosmetic reasons or because the mole may be cancerous, can lead to scarring. However, scarring may depend on different factors such as age , stitches , surgery or the whole procedure.
Can I remove my mole at home?
One should never remove a mole at home on their own. They may have painful sores or become infected if not taken care of at a doctor’s clinic. A doctor might either shave off smaller moles or cut larger ones out. Depends on how much needs to be taken away, a person might get stitches from the incision areas once the test is finished
Do moles fade or disappear by themselves?
Sometimes moles do fade or disappear. This is not usually a cause for alarm, especially when people become older. However, freckles are never an indication of cancerous tumors and we do hope that you would use your best judgment if you happen to have spots on your body that change color at any point in time.
How can a person avoid getting the mole?
You can prevent new moles from forming by practicing a safe amount of sun exposure.
– You need to use sunscreen every day
– Protect the head from the sun.
– Avoid going out at peak sun hours.
Can a dermatologist identify if a mole is cancerous?
A dermatologist or plastic surgeon will examine the mole and other parts of your skin to see if there are any other suspicious-looking moles. Doctor might remove the mole or cut it out to examine it under a microscope in order to assess whether it’s cancerous. The way the procedure is done depends on which type of suspicious mole was found and the doctor performing it, but typically biopsies are performed using local anesthesia that numbs half an inch of skin around the area being tested.
